Jerry Takigawa and Colleen Mullins Presentation at the Carmel Foundation

The Center for Photographic Art kicks off its month-long Celebration of Photography at The Carmel Foundation with Jerry Takigawa and San Francisco photographer and book artist, Colleen Mullins. Photography (from the Greek) is “writing with light.” and like writing, is a medium for self-expression. Photography has been about craft, aesthetics and technical skill. What separates an artist from AI is consciousness. In a world dominated by technology, we become hungry for authenticity and humanity. In a truth-optional world, one of the last remaining founts of honesty is the artist. We know what honesty looks like. It’s the idea that can scare you a little, the one that makes you feel vulnerable. Join Jerry and Colleen as they follow Jerry’s artistic development from being a young artist, knowing a lot but having little to say — to finding his voice and how best to express it. Your comments will be welcomed as Colleen will guide our conversation about the risks and rewards of being yourself.
