Jerry Takigawa—Liminal Language: 1980–2020 at Center for Photographic Art, Carmel, California

The Center for Photographic Art (CPA), located in Carmel’s historic Sunset Center, is pleased to announce the opening exhibition of the new year—a retrospective entitled Jerry Takigawa: Liminal Language, 1980–2020.

Please join us in our first virtual opening of 2021. Jerry Takigawa has been an important photographic voice on the Monterey Peninsula for many decades. His recent multi-award winning series, Balancing Cultures, has amplified that voice and introduced his photography to audiences across the country and beyond. This exhibition, curated by Helaine Glick, will explore a forty-year evolution of his ideas and practices and will include a range of pioneering photographs. On display will be works from his 1980s Kimono Series, his black and white still life series: Landscapes of Presence, his poetic take on the grim plastic pollution of our oceans: False Food, and highlights from Balancing Cultures. The retrospective exhibition opens Saturday, January 9, and runs through Sunday, February 14, 2021.

Virtual Reception, with Artist & Curator Conversation: Saturday, January 9, 4– 5:30pm.

There will be an artist talk, via Zoom, with a short Q & A at the end. If you would like to sign up for this, please do so HERE before 5 pm on January 8. Space is  limited.

The artist talk will also be livestreamed on the Center for Photographic Art’s Facebook page at 4 pm on January 9. This will allow an unlimited audience to view the event but, as it is not interactive, you will not be able to speak or ask  questions. You can join that event HERE.
