Jerry Takigawa’s False Food series will be shown at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History
To tie in with its summer speaker series, focusing on plastics and the environment, the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History will exhibit photographs from Jerry Takigawa’s False Food series. False Food portrays plastic waste—recovered from dead albatross—in surprising and unfamiliar contexts. Presenting the problem in a different light, Takigawa believes, can promote new ways to think about (and hopefully act on) it. Negative images can cause people to feel helpless and overwhelmed. Director of Community Engagement, Juan Govea, wrote: “This marriage of art, science, and conservation is more critical than ever as it shows what is happening to our earth as invisible forces change it—from a warming atmosphere to plastics drifting to the depths of the ocean…Most importantly, these beautiful images force the visitor to confront one of the uglier sides of our human existence: what we are putting into the world and how it affects the species we share our planet with.
Exhibition runs: June 28th – September 15th
Reception for the artist: Friday, June 28th, 5:30 – 7:30pm
