Resilience: A Sansei Sense of Legacy Exhibition Travels to Portland, Oregon
Continuing on its five-year national tour, Resilience: A Sansei Sense of Legacy will be on display at the Japanese American Museum of Oregon (JAMO) October 2 through December 22, 2022. Co-curated by Jerry Takigawa and Gail Enns, the exhibition presents the work of eight Sansei artists from across the United States. Working in different mediums, and presenting different points of view, the source of their expression stems from a common history: the intergenerational trauma that resulted from Executive Order 9066. Issued in 1942, EO 9066 caused their families to be imprisoned during WWII. The participating artists are Kristine Aono, Lydia Nakashima Degarrod, Reiko Fujii, Wendy Maruyama, Tom Nakashima, Roger Shimomura, NaOmi Judy Shintani, and Jerry Takigawa.
JAMO will have the Balancing Cultures book and the recently published Resilience catalog for sale at the museum store.
The exhibition was facilitated by the Mid-America Arts Alliance and Exhibits USA. View the exhibition tour schedule here.
