Resilience: A Sansei Sense of Legacy Opens National Tour in Kansas

Resilience: A Sansei Sense of Legacy began it’s five year national tour at the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery in Topeka, Kansas, where it will be on display from March 9 through May 28, 2022. Co-curated by Jerry Takigawa and Gail Enns, the exhibition presents the work of eight Sansei artists from different locations across the United States, working in different mediums and voicing different points of view. The source of their expression stems from a common history: the intergenerational trauma resulting from Executive Order 9066—issued in 1942—which caused their families to be imprisoned during WWII. The participating artists are Kristine Aono, Lydia Nakashima Degarrod, Reiko Fuji, Wendy Maruyama, Tom Nakashima, Roger Shimomura, Na Omi Judy Shintani, and Jerry Takigawa.

The exhibition was facilitated by the Mid-America Arts Alliance and Exhibits USA. View the exhibition tour schedule here.
