Supporting the World’s Oceans
I want to express my appreciation to Meredith Mullins for posting the article “Artistic Expression Speaks Out for World Oceans” on the OIC Moments (Oh I See Moments) blog, June 6, 2013. For me, False Food is a metaphor for survival. While the albatross are deceived by plastic, mistaking it for food, we humans are deceived by consumerism—mistaking material goods for sustenance. In our universe, separation is an illusion. Everything is connected. Plastic is forever. To take the tragedy of ocean pollution and create beauty represents a mindset needed for survival. I believe aesthetics keeps the story alive. We face a myriad of impending disasters and the sooner we can begin imagining better, the better our chances for survival.
